Flash Point

Closed Cup Flash Point Testing of Liquids by ASTM D3278

FAI Materials Testing offers flash point determination of liquid samples according to ASTM D3278. The temperature for our closed cup flash point test equipment ranges from -10°C to 100°C. Flash Point is an important characteristic for many liquids including:

• Lubricants

• Paints

• Oils

• Fuels

• and more

You can rely on us to perform your testing in a standard laboratory environment by trained personnel. As always we strive to offer the best service, fastest turn-around time, and most affordable price.

How it Works

Flash point is a property of a material that describes the temperature at which the sample will ignite in the presence of an open flame.  A closed cup flash point testing apparatus heats a sample to a specified temperature and holds it at that temperature for one minute to allow time for volatiles within the sample to fill the closed cup.  After one minute the sample is exposed to a flame through a hole in the top of the cup.  If it does not ignite, the temperature is increased and the test repeated until the sample ignites.  The temperature at which the sample ignites is called the flash point.
