Coefficient of Friction Testing
Horizontal Wet Coefficient of Friction Testing - Dry Static Coefficient of Friction Testing - Kinetic Coefficient of Friction Testing
What is Coefficient of Friction?
The coefficient of friction is a dimensionless number (usually less than 1) that describes how much force is required to move a material in contact with a standardized material. FAI Materials Testing Laboratory performs dry and wet (lubricated), static and kinetic coefficient of friction testing according to standardized test methods. FAI performs coefficient of friction testing wet, dry, and at different relative humidities and temperatures.
Equipment
FAI uses our Instron universal load frames rather than a hand-pulled dynamometer. You can see a diagram of how the test is performed below.
Samples
Most of our samples are sheets, panels or blocks, but we have tested many other materials such as shoe soles, slightly curved surfaces, and paving products. Contact us today to find out more about our friction testing capabilities.
